Install TurboTax Desktop

To install TurboTax Desktop, begin by purchasing the software either online or through a retail store. If you’re downloading it, go to the installturbotax.com website, select your version, and log in or create an account. Afterward, download the installer file and run it on your computer.

  • Purchase or download TurboTax Desktop from the official website or retail store.
  • Run the downloaded installer or insert the CD and follow the setup instructions.
  • Enter the product code if requested and accept the terms.
  • Complete the installation and launch TurboTax Desktop to start filing.

How do I install TurboTax Desktop?

Download the TurboTax Installer

  • Go to the installturbotax.com website.
  • Select the version of TurboTax you want to install (e.g., Deluxe, Premier, Home & Business, etc.).
  • Choose to download the installer or purchase the physical disc, depending on your preference.
  • If you’re downloading, click the Download button and save the installer file to your computer.

Prepare Your Computer

  • Make sure your computer meets the minimum system requirements for TurboTax (OS version, storage, and RAM).
  • Close unnecessary applications to avoid interruptions during installation.

Run the Installer

  • Locate the TurboTax installer file you downloaded (usually in the Downloads folder) and double-click it to start the installation.
  • If you purchased a physical disc, insert it into your computer’s drive and follow the on-screen instructions.

Follow the On-Screen Instructions

  • Choose your installation language (usually English).
  • Read and agree to the license agreement and terms & conditions.
  • Select the installation location (default folder is recommended).
  • Choose additional features if available (such as state tax filing or extra forms).

Complete Installation

  • Once the installation process finishes, click Finish.
  • TurboTax will now be installed on your computer.

Activate TurboTax

  • Open TurboTax using the desktop icon or from the Start menu (Windows) or Applications folder (Mac).
  • Enter your license code from the confirmation email or disc packaging.
  • Sign in to your TurboTax account or create a new one if required.

Start Using TurboTax

  • Begin entering your tax information or use features like e-filing.

Check for Updates

  • Download any available updates when prompted to ensure you have the latest tax forms and features.
  • You can also manually check for updates by selecting Check for Updates from the TurboTax menu.
